The Travel
Agents Federation of India (TAFI) is a dynamic organization formed
in 1986 by a group of 8 leading Travel Agents. It was created to
regulate the travel industry in India in accordance with sound business
principles and ethics.
Since then, the Federation's membership has swelled steadily from
the original 8 to 800 consisting of Active (Travel Agents), Associate
(Branch Offices of Travel Agents) and Allied (all other suppliers
of travel services) members from all over India.

| Its Aims & Objectives |
- To protect
the interests of those engaged in the industry, to promote its
orderly growth and development, to safeguard the traveling public
from exploitation by unscrupulous and unreliable so-called Travel
Agents.
- To safeguard
the interests of the traveling public and maintains high ethical
standards within the travel trade through better communications
and awareness about regulations.
- To augment
the development of the travel industry in India by consistent
improvement in the standard of service and inculcate professionalism.
- To spread
greater awareness and updated information on travel to efficiently
cater to the needs of the travelers from within India and overseas.
- To promote
mutual cooperation among members of TAFI and thereby ensure healthy
growth of the Travel Industry.
- To represent
the travel agents trade before official bodies of Government,
Airline bodies and other appropriate forums.
- To promote
such schemes which would benefit the members of TAFI as well as
provide mutually beneficial alternatives to the airline industry
for better growth of travel.
- To safeguard
the interest of the Travel Agents vis-a-viz providers such as
airlines, several consulates, several Government authorities.
- To ensure
compliance of Rules & Regulations & Guidelines sent by the Consulates,
Government Authorities, Airlines etc.

| Activities of TAFI |
- Fostering
fraternity among its members through regular fellowships.
- Helping
in developing better understanding among the different segments
of travel industry and bringing them into its fold by offering
memberships under different categories.
- Gathering
useful information on travel and disseminating them to its members
for their guidance.
- Maintaining
close contact with world bodies and representing matters affecting
the travel industry of the country.
- Educating
and equipping the members to meet the challenges of tomorrow through
regular meetings and seminars.
- Apart from
TAAI, TAFI is the only other national body representing IATA accredited
Agents spread all over India.
- The national
carrier has invited TAFI to be the member of APJC (Agency Programme
Joint Council).
- With the
recognition of TAFI by AIP-9 and now by BSP India with its accreditation
to APJC, we will be working with the Council of Airlines.
- It is important
that a trade body of national level is recognized by the monitoring
panels in India and the Government of India.
- In other
trades, there are several organizations such as FICCI, CII, etc.
working in tandem for the benefit of industrial development of
this country.

| SPECIAL
NOTE ON THE JOINTBANK GUARANTEE SCHEME(JBG) |
- The TAFI
JBG scheme was commissioned in 1996 and brought together 17 agents
from Mumbai.
- They came
together and took the bold decision of taking risk on behalf of
each other to the tune of Rs 1.83 Crores.
- It was then
that TAFI decided to pass on this advantage beyond the 17 agents
to other members by including new members in the scheme year after
year.
- By 2003,
130 agents enjoyed advantages of 6.85 Crores and today TAFI Joint
FDR members contribute 15% (approx) of the total turnover of BSP-IATA
in India.
- TAFI holds
today Fixed Deposits worth Rs 15,55,00,000/-
approx USD 38,87,500/-
- This scheme
is based on Trust & Confidence of the participants in each other.
